Multiple threads of thought and influence converged into a career path of carpentry. At the age of 10, a family trip to look at a custom home being built in Santa Barbara, CA captured my attention for unconventional living spaces. During those formative years, illustrations of houses and structures were intriguing to me and sparked the question, "how do you build one of those?" Growing up in a community of crafters, artists and tradesmen instilled a value of craftsmanship, creative vision and working with one's hands. A college Art History class introduced different architectural styles and design concepts but the "How" question remained. A life long appreciation for the Sierra Nevada surrounded by wood, granite, clear air and bright light and the desire to work outside in the mountains precipitated the choice to pursue carpentry in Tahoe. Nearly 30 years of field experience and technical problem solving later, I am still answering the question of my youth.
